Jen Morris, Bio

Jen Morris grew up in rural Southwestern Pennsylvania. The landscape around her was characterized by struggling farms, closing steel mills, and collapsing coal mines. Globalization, consequent deindustrialization, and perpetual attempts at reinvention described the culture she lived within. Because of this experience, Morris is ever curious about how personal and public spheres of memory intersect, and how we define and curate an understanding of ourselves, our culture, and our society. Her practice embraces research, and she uses photography as a tool of ethnographic exploration.

Morris earned her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, and her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as a Merit Scholar, Weinstein Memorial Fellowship recipient, and Graduating Fellowship awardee. She is now based in rural New England.
