Jen Morris

Poet and critic Emily Anderson and artist Jen Morris are working together to form a hybrid of their individual practices. They contemplate gender within a society that has been displaced from its environment, severed from its food source, and grounded within a culture of placation. Their performative video work has exhibited in Philadelphia, Vermont, and Spain.

The Rhapsode videos employ ekphrastic text, performance, and video while using the Odyssey as a mirror and muse. Emily Anderson and Jen Morris sacrifice contemporary, confectionary oddities to a god of choice. They stack doughnuts in kerns of longing and hope to resonate with Penelope’s weaving. They imagine these acts in the tricked safe-haven of Circe, and ground it all in Calypso’s tantrum. The Rhapsode series contemplates gender within a society that has been displaced from its environment, severed from its food source, and grounded within a culture of placation.
